Volunteer with Us

Making a difference Together

Our canine training program has been running for over a decade and in that time we have not just been involved with canines but all aspects of wildlife conservation. Our volunteer programs are based around developing canines to combat wildlife crime but also cover some really interesting aspects of conservation.

The Program

No Two days in conservation are the same just like no two days in this program are the same. Our main focus is on training the canines but we also get heavily involved in other conservation programs like research and area management. We travel around to areas where we have active canine units to carry on the essential continuation training and also get involved with the conservation projects that are happening on the ground. Our itineraries are very flexible and change weekly depending on our training commitments. With us you will travel around and get exposed to many different wildlife areas and anti poaching canine teams.

A typical week

No Two weeks are the same and it all depends where the dogs are in their particular journey to become a trained canine. We travel around the country checking up on the canines in the field so often our training happens in the areas where the canines will one day be operational not just at our training facility.

This is an average training day:

Morning wake up 7am followed by kennel cleaning and walks for the dogs.

8:30 Breakfast followed by training exercises, tracking, detection and bite work foundation classes.

12:30 - 2:00 lunch followed by socialisation and play with the dogs.

6:00 dinner and every few days, night operations training the dogs at night to get them used to working in that environment

Weekends are often spent in wildlife areas where we take the dogs for environmental work but also for volunteers to experience the wild places that we are working to protect. The dogs travel with us everywhere we go and we use every outing as an opportunity to train.

Costs of the Program

The cost of the program is s fixed weekly cost. This includes accommodation and meals and all travel while we are moving around between wildlife areas. Accommodation varies depending on which areas we are working but is usually safari type tents with en-suite or communal bathrooms when we are travelling or a self contained cottage when we are training at the facility.  It does not include travel to and from Zimbabwe and extra activities that the guest elects to do. The itinerary will depend very much on the time of year but we will be able to tell you in advance the areas that we will be heading to.

Weekly cost is US$ 890 per week.
